Airsoft is a military simulation sport in which players use authentic military-style replicas and tactics in historical reenactments, geopolitical intrigues or fictional combat situations. Airsoft is all about roleplay (players often play characters during video game like scenarios) and fair-play (unlike Paintball pellets, the projectiles leaves no mark upon impact). Airsoft is not about winning. It’s more about the collective experience.
The Airsoft community has always been promoting values of ethics, fair-play and respect (of each other, of environment, of rules of security for players and non-players). For example, you will rarely find the mention of the word “weapon” and more frequently the word “replica” for example. Airsofters clearly want to keep the game as a game.
Extremely popular in Eastern Asia, Airsoft is a fast growing market in Europe and in North America with already well established brands such as Cybergun (Publicly traded. Turnover of 73 million euros during 2010-2011. Annual revenue up 43%). Airsoft is becoming mainstream like Paintball in the 90s.
